You hear him speak

I took the course the book is based on in the Spring of 1973. We students took turns taking notes until the last few where for some reason we ran out of volunteers. The book is an excellent condensing of the lectures. Many of the steps are left out that were presented in the lectures or left for the students to fill in. While there are no explicit exercises in the book, going from one step to the next provides an excellent opportunity to test your understanding. I am in no way an expert in mathematics, but the equations are sufficient to follow point to point.
When I read this book, I can hear him speaking. He would have the day's lecture on a 3x5 card that he would look at at the start and perhaps one more time during the lecture. He had the ability to lecture on GR or quantum mechanics and you would sit there and say "Yes, that makes sense. Now I understand." They you would walk out and start thinking and come to the conclusion that you really didn't understand and that you needed to study it some more. This book lets you do that.

A concise overview of the classical theory.

In his inimitable concise style, with not a word out of place, Dirac offers a 60 page sketch of the classical theory of gtr. Doesn't cover any of the modern theoretical developments and offers not a single figure, but if you have a strong math background and very little time to spare, this is probably the book for you. No problems included, so serious autodidacts should supplement this with another text such as d'Inverno which does have problems.

This is definitely not a book for the weak of heart. Dirac does a brilliant job presenting the material in a concise manner. Still, some concepts are often glossed over, or not explained to an appreciable extent. I found that the Schaum's Tensor Calculus Outline was a good suppliment to this text, since it fills in what Dirac assumes you already know. Overall, I would recommend this book only if you have a strong mathematical background, and an even stronger desire to learn the Theory of Relativity.

About the Author
Michael W. Passer coordinates the introductory psychology program at the University of Washington, USA which enrolls more than 3,000 students per year. He received his Bachelors degree from the University of Rochester, his PhD from UCLA in social psychology, and has been a faculty member at the University of Washington since 1977.

Outstanding Research Methods Text for Undergrad Psych

I completely disagree with the single negative review of this text and so wanted to enter a comment here that may be helpful to potential buyers. I've been teaching undergraduate experimental methodology for psychology since 2003 and relied upon the same textbook until Passer released this outstanding methods texts. Psych research methods textbooks are notorious for their dry content and this particular textbook represents an exception to that rule. I was inspired to let go of my old text and revise my lecture content in accord with Passer's structure. The text offers up to date and interesting examples of research design for psych. Passer has a talent for describing methodology. His voice as a writer is very accessible and clear. This is a really high quality text.

Easy to understand! I completely disagree with the other review. Passer has a great way of explaining the material. Many books (I have four others, and have had to use others in some classes) use an absurd amount of examples, which leave one even more confused. I found this text short and to the point. Passer is a researcher, which is why he uses his personal examples. But, he uses more of other people examples than his own. I found this text to be interesting. I have even spoken with other students about how interesting this text is, usually they are the ones to point it out. My professor has recently changed to this text, I have had former students claim they wish they had had this text.

Jay H. Withgott has authored "Essential Environment" and its parent volume, "Environment: The Science behind the Stories, "since their inception. In dedicating himself to these books, he works to keep abreast of a diverse and rapidly changing field and continually seeks to develop new and better ways to help today's students learn environmental science. As a researcher, Jay has published papers in ecology, evolution, animal behavior, and conservation biology in journals ranging from "Evolution to Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences." As an instructor, he has taught university lab courses in ecology and other disciplines. As a science writer, Jay has authored articles for journals and magazines including "Science," New Scientist, BioScience, Smithsonian, and Natural History. By combining his scientific training with prior experience as a newspaper reporter and editor, he strives to make science accessible and engaging for general audiences. Jay holds degrees from Yale University, the University of Arkansas, and the University of Arizona. Jay lives with his wife, biologist Susan Masta, in Portland, Oregon. Matthew M. Laposata Matthew M. Laposata is a professor of environmental science at Kennesaw State University (KSU). He holds a bachelor's degree in biology education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, a masters in biology from Bowling Green State University, and a doctorate in ecology from The Pennsylvania State University. Matt is the coordinator of KSU's two-semester, general education science sequence Science, Society, and the Environment which enrolls roughly 7,000 students a year. Fascinating... but true?

Headlined as an investigation into the lives of three of the UK's most notorious 60's gamblers - James Goldsmith, John Aspinall & "Lucky" Lord Lucan - and claiming to reveal, for the first time, the true story behind Lucan's even more notorious "disappearance" - one of the UK's longest running murder mysteries - "The Gamblers" is a quite riveting insight into a bizarre world of power, glamour, addiction, fabulous wealth and self destruction. Like the friend who recommended it to me I read it virtually straight through and while I left with as many questions as answers I discovered, on the way, a whole host of mind-boggling facts about the people who populated London's most exclusive gambling den, "The Clermont Club", and its now iconic sister night-club, "Annabel's".

Cleverly underpinned by sufficient clearly genuine information to make you believe it all, you are, by the last third of the book, quite prepared to fully accept Pearson's take on Lucan's fate, even though the lines between objective analysis and sensationalist interpretation have in fact become fairly blurred. But no matter because, in the end, "The Gamblers" is much more than simply another title-selling angle on the Lord Lucan saga, rather an intriguing exploration into a part of London's "swinging sixties" scene that most of us never knew existed and a fascinating study of what draws the rich & privileged into the ridiculously high-risk world of big-money gambling.

Great condition, pretty much brand new, the EXACT same as the regular fifth edition hard back but for less than half the price! If you need the Project Management: The managerial process book for a class or any other reason this is definitely the book to buy. I saved over $100 by buying this rather than the hard back version at my school book store, and I looked through the hard back and soft back international version with my teacher and they are both identical. Project management wizardry

I purchased this book for use in my graduate school project management course and I must say, I have been quite impressed. It explains the concepts and application of management theory fairly concisely and very thoroughly. There is no BS filler material and I have found it to be quite interesting and incredibly useful when attending lecture and participating in class discussions. Many "real world" examples of the concepts are given, which help quite a bit when translating the concepts into practice. If you are required to have this for a course (it claims to be the Superman of PM textbooks), or whether you want to brush up on knowledge for your PM certification, this is most likely going to be the book you want to purchase.
