By Without Music Life Wouldn't Be Fair
So many things wrong with this story. I know, I know, it's a lesbian romance novel, not Dickens. And I recognize that it's a sincere effort, but the author totally and completely lost me at the intimacy. **SPOILER** Who in the everliving hell is going to get it on just days (days!!!) after receiving serious, surgical level, multiple gun shot wounds??? All I could think was "Christ, that's gotta hurt." It would take a lobotomy to suspend your disbelief that much. So much of this story just borders on or goes right off the cliff into the ridiculous. I found the character development of the peripheral characters lazy or just...non-existent and cliche'd. I am willing to sacrifice a lot of quality in exchange for seeing some semblance of myself anywhere in fiction....but this book was not worth that sacrifice.
Anyone frustrated with this book for the same reasons might enjoy Lynn Galli's work more. She writes authentic interior and spoken dialogue, keeps it real circumstantially and personally, staying (mostly) outside of cliche-land, and she always conveys how totally and completely HOT unconditional love could be--without the insane extremes some of these novels go to...

A very good read. The story of heartbreak and mending...

"Broken Shield" is one of those stories where the reader is either going to be lost in the characters and their journey or be critical or hung up about technical specifics. Before I bought this book I read the first three reviews which were one and two stars, I laughed at what the readers had to say and decided I would buy and read the story! Why? It is the same when I read reviews from movie critics who get hung up on such technical and non-essential aspects; if I wanted to read a story for the technical writing and editing I would read some educational book. When I spend my money on a book I want the story to make me feel, make me laugh, and make me think! I want to get lost in my imagination and leave my stressful life behind for a few hours! Thank you Isabella for doing all of these for me during the time I read the story of Ash and Ty! Oh, by the way, the cover is another reason why I bought the book. Before I read it I thought sexy, tasteful, and hot, however, after I finished the story I thought how fitting the cover was a naked woman, why? In order for Ashley and Tyler to heal they had to bare their souls. Well, and ummm hot and sexy too~~~

Disappointed

I enjoyed Isabella's first book, Always Faithful, and although I enjoyed this story I almost put the book down numerous times because of spelling and grammar errors. Sweat for sweet, bulging for bugling just to name a few. I find this very irritating!
