of interest to those who enjoy local history of Ohio

When I did my review of Highland County, Ohio: A Pictorial History Celebrating 200 Years, it reminded me that I had two other books in my library on the history of Highland County, OH, where I lived for the first eighteen to twenty years of my life. When I was growing up, we lived near the village of New Market, where I went to elementary school, about seven miles south of the county seat of Hillsboro, where I went to junior-senior high school and graduated in 1972. Violet Morgan (1895-1983) was a long-time school teacher in Highland County. I never had Miss Morgan, because she taught in the county system and we were in the Hillsboro City school district, but I knew who she was and would see her from time to time.

Miss Morgan’s first book, Folklore of Highland County, consists of eight chapters. Chapter one is an introduction to Highland County with information from before the beginning of local history and about the county’s beginning. Chapter two is a general picture of the geography, topography, flora, fauna, and climate of the county. Chapter three is primarily about the Indians. Chapter four tells how the white men came. Chapter five discusses how the county grew. Chapter six consists of truth is stranger than fiction stories. Chapter seven covers the county’s towns and villages. And chapter eight is about some interesting people. In the back, there are a bibliography and an index. Apparently, her books captured the interest of author Jesse Stuart, of Kentucky, and partly through his influence, she received a nomination for a Guggenheim Award.

Copies of this book were in both our elementary school and local public libraries. Because of my interest in the history of the area in which I was born and raised, I checked the book out many, many times when a youngster and a teenager to do research. It was always interesting to read about the backgrounds about various nearby places with which I was intimately familiar because I had close friends or relatives who lived there and we would frequently drive through them from time to time. My own copy came to me in the books that I inherited from my Grandfather and Grandmother Workman, both of whom had been teachers in the Highland County schools with the author. I still treasure it. Miss Morgan also wrote another book, a novel entitled Squaw Winter (1955).

I'm Swimming with the Sharks and Loving It

As an avid business book reader, I've heard nothing but great things about this book. Greats reviews, comments, and praise....hmm, I have to admit that I was a little skeptical.

So I decided to pick up this book for a plane ride from Chicago to Puerto Rico which is about a five hour ride. Well, that was one of the fastest plane rides I have ever had. I couldn't put the book down.

Be prepared to take a lot of notes, as the style used to write this book is very fast and free flowing. It's loaded with golden nuggets, so take your time going through it. It might even be a good idea to read it more than once.

The one negative that I will say about the book is that Mr Mackay is a highly connected man as he mingles with athletes, celebrities, etc. Connections that the average person may not see on a daily basis. This isn't necessarily a bad thing but it may turn people off, thinking it doesn't apply to their specific situation. But if you dig deep, you find ways to apply his principles to any situation you may be in....just a thought.

Harvey Mackey wrote the book on how to change your life. I read and implemented the things in this book & it changed my life. The Mackey 66 by itself is worth the price of the book. Don't just read this book put it to use. I buy this book to give to people who need a change in their life. It changed mine & I know that if you apply the principle's from this book to your life it will change your life to! Harvey really hit a home run with this one.

Not Great but Not Bad, Maybe Good for a Rookie to the Business World

This wasn't a great book and it wasn't a bad book. It was readable to the sense that it didn't put me to sleep but it also wasn't exciting to the point that I didn't want to put it down. It was interesting but not a book where you will take away a lot of new ideas if you have been around for a long time in the business world.

The book is broken up into a bunch of mini-chapters what the author calls Lessons and Quickies. Each lesson gives a little bit of advice or wisdom. The lesson can be one page, one line on a page or a few pages. I think that maybe someone starting out in sales might find some of the earlier chapters useful. In these early chapters there is focus on the customer and how to know your customer. After the sales chapters the book kind of goes off into a bunch of different topics.

Again, its an ok read. Recommended for a beginner in business not recommended for an experienced executive.

About the Author

Mohamed Alibi

Mohamed Alibi is a Linux System administrator at the training team of the European Bio-informatics Institute EMBL-EBI at the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus. He got his master's degree in Network System and Telecom from the Faculty of Sciences of the Tunis El Manar University, with an internship held at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign at the National Center for Supercomputer Applications and the Carl R. Woese Institute for Genomic Biology. He started his career as a system and network administrator at Institut Pasteur de Tunis from 2011 to 2015. During this time, he got associated with the network project H3ABioNet. He held the title of the co-chair of the Infrastructure Working Group, helping the development and enhancement of the computer infrastructure of project nodes. Between 2014 and 2015, he started his career as a part-time professor at Superior Institute of Biotechnology of Sidi Thabet, then, as a system administrator trainer with the University of Pretoria as part of the project H3ABioNet. At the end of 2015, Mohamed got his current position as a Linux system administrator with the European Bio-informatics Institute. He reviewed a book about CentOS 7 troubleshooting in late 2014 and early 2015.

Really good resource for new CentOS 7 admins

This is a great resource for key tasks in CentOS. All of the topics covered are addresses concisely and well. I gave it four stars rather than five as it could use coverage of some additional topics like software management and similar core tasks especially given it's title of "mastering". While it falls a bit short of mastery it's a great resource overall nonetheless.

Not near Mastery but pretty darn close!

I would agree with another reviewer first that it does say "Mastering" yet does fall short on the title. However the book covers enough of the core OS to claim some competency with CentOS 7 so I didn't deduct stars for it, note that if you've been working in the field for a long period of time a lot of this book will be just skipped over, so keep that in mind. I wanted to use it as a refresher into the CentOS 7 HPC and HAC deployment book I found by Packt as well, perfect combination. Certainly recommend this book to anyone wanting to enter the realm of CentOS 7 and wanting to administer it effectively, as well as know nearly all of the ins and outs one would expect you to know if you're looking for a job in Systems Engineering as a Linux Administrator.

Another excellent source of exactly how you can get stronger and live a healthier life. This book is also inspirational in motivating you to achieve all you fitness goals whether you are a beginner or advanced from the calisthenic guru himself. I have a couple of books from this this author and at 55 yrs old I'm now able to do some very cool body weight exercises that made me much stronger (and I already workout with weights). Truly inspirational. This book is another great one from this author.

A good book

Nearly half is about what's in your head and what you put in your stomach. Something worth thinking about. Never think that you outgrow the basics. Nice lowest to highest versions of those basics when it comes to body weight exercise, complete with routines. Good balance, something usable by all. Very quotable too.

Good book if your looking for basic information exercises and Danny's view on nutrition, supplements and life...simple is better

First off I have to say overall the book is good but really depends on what you are looking for. For me I am new to bodyweight only training but not to fitness overall. I can do most basic moves and was really looking for a book to help give some structure to my workouts and progressive training to some of the harder moves.

The good:
Danny's approach to life is how I have been moving towards life in regards to fitness. Less is more and just keeping everything simple. Danny's give his point of view on supplements, nutrition, being a good person in an unedited and funny point of view. It is a refreshing change versus the macro and other diets I have tried in the past. It was awesome to pick up a book or workout program and not be pushed into their supplement line or some sort of "magic" pill to lose 10 pounds in 10 days. Danny is upfront by saying this is along process that is hard work.

The not really that bad....bad:
Really hard to say there was a glaring bad part in this book. But if you are looking for a lot of information on several different exercises, workout plans or programs, this book touches on all of it but does not provide a ton of information. Almost 90 pages into the book is when Danny starts with the workouts. The workouts are broken up into three parts based on the reader's level of fitness. These sections, although give the reader a decent idea of what kind of exercises you can do at each level (knee push-ups to classic push-ups to one-arm push-ups) and give a few hints of progressive exercises it really does not give a great deal of information. The chapters just jump from classic push-ups in one chapter to one-arm push ups in another for example. Not that it is incorrect but I have seen other publications give nearly 5 or 6 exercises between the two to slowly build up to the one-arm push-ups. Also at the end of each chapter I was hoping for a few more samples of workouts to do but the book only provides three workouts per level. I was just hoping for more.

The kinda annoying part:
Once again not bad but annoying (maybe just to me) part of the book is the over use of pictures and ads. First I am a very visual person so most of the time I enjoy pictures that demonstrate an exercise, this book has pictures of Danny and his brother on nearly every page. This would not be horrible if not most of them are just large pictures of Danny doing something goofy or dressed up like a doctor, the terminator or something like that. Again I like Danny and his brother a lot but for $40 this book could have had a lot more information in it if they removed even half the pictures.

Going back to the ads. I appreciate Danny not pushing a supplement line or anything like that but his other books are plugged in this book often. The last 26 pages of this book is dedicated to advertising the other books in the Dragon Door line up. I know they make money through sales but it was a little of an overkill for me. The good part is the ads in the back go into detail the contents of the other books. Hoping I can read that and find the book I was looking for in the first place.

In this concise book, Maxwell provides a healthy definition of success and shares valuable keys to achieving it. Topics include the role failure plays in success (my favorite section), work skills, character and persistence. If you've read much Maxwell, not a lot of new here but a good review.

A Well Written book

My generation is when our military went to Viet Nam. I was also blessed to have many Vietnamese friends when they first came here in 1975. I realized just how badly these people REALLY did want freedom. The period of time Mr Grey wrote about was a fifty year tale that ended in 1975. I felt at times that I was there and my heart ached for how the Vietnamese people were treated by all of the countries who occupied the country for many many years. They were treated brutally on all sides. There were quite an array of characters - of course some fiction was added to keep a person interested in what they are reading. I feel that the history was 100% accurate. The biggest sorrow was how soldiers on all sides were treated brutally and life was 'cheap'...I have a greater understanding of why people wanted out of there at the end of April of 75. Communism is brutal... I would recommend this book to anyone who likes history or who may just want to know more about Viet Nam. I thank the author for such a well written book...
