Well written and motivating with lots of good ideas

I have not broken my leg like the author did but I had my own "wake up call" (quite literally this morning) when I had hyperextended a knee last night and literally could not walk this morning when I got out of bed. I was terrified that I would not be able to work (and therefore not be able to make money). I'm a single mom who lives alone 50 percent of the time and I simply can not lose my mobility!

The book is an easy read and well-written. While repetitive sometimes (but arguably, necessary to drive home the point), the author makes a lot of good practical suggestions which are easily incorporated in ones day-to-day life.

What I like about the book is the author has been where I am and found her way up and out without resorting to fads, surgery, and other extreme measures... it is about common sense approaches, low-cost support systems, and assembling the emotional tools and self-discipline necessary to go through the transformation from being morbidly obese to healthy.

I am on day 1 and I realize that I'm teetering on the brink of becoming one of those folks that can't walk around the store and has to use a scooter vs climbing back out of the hole I have dug for myself so that I can live the next 50 years of my life independent and self-sufficient. Ain't no one gonna do it for me so it is up to me! That is the message the author provides in her book and one that I need to have drilled into my head day after day after day.

Just what I needed to read!

This book cuts right to the quick of aging and how to age as well as you would like to. Laura's voice is clear throughout the book as she takes us through her transformation. I have to say that I was hooked once I picked it up and had a difficult time putting it down. I saw myself often in these pages. Uplifting and down-to-earth at the same time...I highly recommend this to all who have joined the 50 club!

Quick motivational read!

Quick easy read, very motivational. Ms Sinclair had already decided to turn her health around when she suffered a major ankle fracture (all three bones). She used that life-changing event to truely focus on her health goals! She stayed off sugar during her recovery and reported to the gym as soon as she was able. She gradually cleaned up her eating habits as she gained fitness in the gym. She didn't rush, and lost 80 pounds over the course of a year. She is an engaging writer, and includes considerable common diet and health information along the way. This is an excellent book for someone who would like to turn their health around but doesn't really know how to do it. It's also excellent if you're just starting your journey with a fractured ankle. I only gave it 3 stars because I would expect a longer read for $6.99, and the last few chapters become a bit repetitive, as if she was trying to stretch it out. I still recommend it, however. I'm glad I read it.

I have never read any of Danielle Steel's books and this is the first book of hers that I am reading. I haven't read the whole thing yet but from what I have read so far it is great. In the first chapter alone it pulled at my emotions. Danielle Steel writes beautifully. I am glad that this book was chosen to read in my book club. Aside from the book itself, it arrived on time. I think it may have arrived faster than expected. Overall, I am happy with the whole experience and the book itself.

I used to have a copy of the book until I lended to someone. It was an excelent refference for quality control of medicinal plants an for preparing monographs. The presentation of the coloured T.L.C. traces is impressing, the information can be trusted and it is clearly and concisely presented.

Decent if you must have a care plan book, needs more details

This book is fairly easy to use. I like the layout, but it is not as great when it comes to going over nursing interventions. It is extremely choppy and short. Before I purchased this book I looked high and low for a differnt care plan book more like the one I had purchased for nursing 101 class by Meg Gulanick and Judith Meyers, but alas! They have not published one! I finally settled on this Nursing Care plan book. This has helped me develop my own care plans for patients, but as I stated it is not as detailed as one would have hoped (when it came to rationales for each action or intervention and descriptions for the why you could choose this nanda diagnosis, and even separating out the types of interventions which mu NU 101 care plan book did). I do wish it were available for kindle, lugging yet another large book to clinicals was not pleasant. If you are looking for a care plan book for your OB class, this one is decent, but I am sure there are better more detailed care plans available online just by using google.

Six Sigma Really Demystified !

I have used the First Edition of Paul Keller's Book 'Six Sigma Demystified' for some years now to prepare students for their Green Belt Certification Examination. I was therefore delighted when I saw that Paul had revised and updated the book now in its Second Edition.

The book is ideal both for students new to Six Sigma and for the more experienced practitioners.It also has a lot to offer organisations thinking of embarking on Six Sigma for the first time. The reason it works in all three cases arises from the 3 part structure of the text:

Part 1 covers the important topic of 'Preparing for Deployment' from which organisations can learn how to deploy a Six Sigma Initative.
Part 2 covers the DMAIC methodology with end of Chapter Quizes making it ideal for students preparing for Certification Examinations particularly at Green Belt Level.
Part 3 is a comprehensive review of the Tools of Six Sigma. This section is particularly helpful for Six Sigma Practitioners at all levels and for Black Belts preparing for Certification. This section has been significantly updated to include worked examples with both Minitab and Excel solutions. Good examples of this particularly for Black Belt Students include Factorial Design and Response Surface Designs.

The updated 'Final Exam' is excellent for students to practice answering questions on every aspect of the subject and includes updated material using Excel solutions.

A statistical approach to project management

This book is part of the DeMYSTiFied series. These books are a little more sophisticated than the "For Dummies" or "Idiots" books. Of course they are sneaky with statements like "No fancy formulas" or "No staggering statistics" both statements that must have been written by rocket scientists. That is what this book is "Plain monstrous Formulas" and overwhelming statistics." But the truth is there is no other way to explain "Six Sigma."

The book seems more geared towards Quality than projects but the same thinking process is there. Just as there is a TQM mystic and now PMI's PMBOK we have a Six Sigma culture with it own language that also usurps terms as green and blank belt.

In the end they take what should be a strait forward mathematical problem and attempt to apply it to the unknown to come up with a working risk analysis.

Using this method most projects will survive nicely on two to four sigmas. However this is one tool that I would what to know is at my disposal when tackling the next project. And this book does a good job of getting you off the ground.

Good for initiates in Six Sigma understanding

I've been looking into Six Sigma on and off for probably two years. I've not yet made a commitment to learning the tools, yet this book I purchased recently at hopes that something that is less technical orientated will get the boat in the water and keep it there.

I would say that I so far have increased my understanding of Six Sigma and I do credit the easy reading here in this book. I would suggest purchasing this book if you wanted to get a step into the world of Six Sigma without the chance of feeling overwhelmed.

While Kim Kelly and Michael O'Guin's focus is on "The Big Ones", anyone involved in business development, market expansion, new market entry, and just good 'ole sales, can learn and take something from this dynamic team's experience and knowledge. It is my opinion that "Big" is a relative term, thus this book transcends the size spectrum of contract negotiations and sales. Aside from the tactics and techniques used to land large government contracts, the book also provides an interesting look into the culture of a world unknown to most, but financed by our tax dollars! A great read for anyone involved in complex contract negotiations, but applicable to small to medium businesses, such as construction, industrial service contracts, etc. Also a great topic/source for a undergraduate/masters student project for business, political science, or finance.

“Winning the Big Ones” is a must read for anybody who wants to win business with the Federal government. O’Guin and Kelly detail what it takes to win, why these are the right steps to take, and the common mistakes companies make when pursuing Federal contracts. What makes this book a must read are two elements: the comprehensive description of the key steps to winning; and the real-world examples and vignettes that bring the steps to life. If you and your company aren’t winning as much new business as you expect, you need to read this book. If you think, “There must be a better way to win,” you need to read this book. If you want to know how high-performing companies win, you need to read this book. “Winning the Big Ones” provides a process and the tools to make winning a habit.
